Thank you to Fire Safety and Rescue for signing up for one race allowing Zion to make it to the second race on the SuperPro schedule. We knew going into the 2009 season there was going to be a learning curve to the new set up that Cozzolino Motorsports has in Zion's car. Zion continues to improve with a 17th place qualifying effort in the 26 car field. SuperPro made the decision to lock in the top 16 cars and run a 15 lap B main with the top 4 cars transferring into the A main. Zion finished 2nd in the B main and started the A main in 18th position. On lap 8 the car on the inside of Zion thought he was clear and hit Zion in the left front tire with his right rear tire. This sent the car that hit Zion head on into the front stretch wall and knocked Zion's front end out of alignment. Zion rode around in the back for most of the race. With 10 laps to go the leaders were starting to catch the back of the field. Zion wanted to stay on the lead lap so he decided to try and pass the car ahead of him that was holding him up. With 5 laps to go Zion spun out off turn 4 and came to a stop half way down the front stretch on the infield grass. When the caution came out, two cars got together spinning one of them into Zion's left rear wheel. Although there was rear suspension damage the crew replaced the left rear tire and Zion finished the race in 16th place. We are hoping to get the car back together for the next race in three weeks.
