Zion made his first visit to Kinross Speedpark in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan to race in the Late Model Season Finale. Our intent was to test for the 7th Annual Randy Dewitt Memorial Invitational race on 9-12-09. After Qualifying 5th and making several adjustments to fix a loose condition, Zion started on the outside front row for the Feature race. When the green flag dropped, Zion hung on the outside of the 1st place car for 5 laps. After crossing the Start / Finish line in the lead, the first and only caution of the race came out. Zion lead the restart and pulled to a 5 car length lead. At the half way point of the race, Zion's car started pushing off the corners and his lead slowly diminished. With two laps to go, Zion's car pushed slightly out of the groove and he was passed going into turn one. Fortunately they had a comfortable lead over the third place car and Zion hung on to finish second. We learned a lot about the ¼ mile track and look forward to next weeks race.
